Introducing An Caladh

An Caladh (pronounced "an calla") is Scots Gaelic for 'haven' or 'retreat'.

Skye has so much to offer visitors of all kinds, and An Caladh provides a perfect base for exploring this unique island off Scotland's west coast.

The house is finished to a high standard, combining comfort with a touch of luxury.

Within easy reach are the town of Dunvegan, the ferry terminal at Uig, the island capital Portree and a range of art galleries and restaurants, as well as the Cuillin mountains and the Talisker Distillery.

Harlosh Point, just down the road, is one of Skye's best-kept secrets, with spectacular views and very few people.

Whatever the weather, there is always something to do on this amazing island.

Step inside
Entrance Hall
A bright and spacious entrance hall which gives access to all the rooms in the house.

Living Room
An absolute jewel of a room, with view packed full of interest: hills, forest, sea cliffs, moorland, croftland and the beautiful waters of Loch Vatten. Plus the tips of the Black Cuillin from the side window. Relax on two large sofas, light a fire in the wood burner, play games, watch TV, read a book, or just sit back and enjoy being in this peaceful haven.

Heather bedroom
A king-size bed with superking duvet, antique limed oak units and a spacious wardrobe. The soft purples and natural colours reflect the wild tranquility of the moorland behind the house.

Loch view bedroom
A twin bedded room with large wardrobe and shelving unit - 2 small single beds (each equivalent to half a king-sized bed) . Decorated in fresh spring colours, the room gives wonderful views over croftland to Loch Vatten and MacLeod's Tables.

Kitchen & Utility
A well equipped large kitchen with oak dining table and chairs and a lovely view of the moorland behind. The utility room has a separate sink and slimline dishwasher.

Shower room (refitted in 2022)
A spacious room with toilet, walk-in shower and storage units. Featuring hand soap and cream by Scottish Fine Soaps, plus luxury towels.

Outside
Our plot is full of interest, with a mix of wild grasses and flowers, including orchids and bog asphodel in early Summer. You can attract birds into the garden if you fill up the feeder, or just relax on the bench and enjoy the view.

Local area
Harlosh is a peaceful community in a wonderful location, close enough to the main road to make the rest of the island accessible, but far enough away to feel like you've escaped. Beyond Harlosh's 'communications centre' (i.e. a post box, telephone box and bus stop), explore the small beach or walk on to the Point of Harlosh (one of Skye's best kept secrets), where the view across Loch Bracadale are stunning. Opposite An Caladh is Russel Sherwood's Skyescape photography studio and gallery - well worth a visit.
